The main problem is the efficiency of these batteries. We still don’t really know what electricity is, we know how to harness it and how to work with. Once we figure out the physics behind electricity, the composition, we will be able to harness it much better. In the mean time I think that we should put more research into compacitors that allow for more busts of energy that are needed during high demand times. Something that is a weakness of other energy generation methods.
Certainly interesting questions you raise. Would it be incorrect in your eyes to view it as a train of electrons sitting on the track, but the train is as long as the wires, and it can go much faster than a train, while doing real physical work. Gravity is one thing I must admit I have no clue on, but I feel a little better about electricity, just because there are electrons.
Capacitors *are* fascinating. As you say bursts of energy, I’m wishing we could have a capacitor which could collect like 99% of the electricity from a lightning bolt and store it. Could power the world with that!

Fun thoughts, cheers.
Cool graphic, Carl. If we could only come up with a perpetual motion machine…and get rid of the law of entropy.
